FLASH RESIDENCY 2025
Finnish Light Art Society FLASH announces the second edition of the FLASH Curatorial Residency in Helsinki, Finland, January 9th to 12th 2025. The residency is organised in collaboration with Lux Helsinki and GLO Hotel Art and supported by EU NextGeneration. Deadline for applications is September 5th, 2024.
THE RESIDENCY
The residency includes visiting Lux Helsinki festival and other light art exhibitions, getting to know Finnish light artists, networking with international light art professionals, professional program of Lux Helsinki, and the utmost highlight in the light art social calendar: the 8th birthday party of the Society.
The residency is free of charge and covers:

the costs of travel up to 200 € (300 € if travel by ground)

accommodation in GLO Hotel Art, January 9th – 12th, including breakfast

program and exhibition tickets
There is a maximum of seven spots available via open call. Priority is given to curators with experience in curating light art, but we’d like to invite curators with incipient interest in light to apply as well. The residency is for all curators, Finland based curators excluded.
APPLYING
To apply, send an informal application letter to Society’s curator Mia Kivinen, mia.kivinen@valotaiteenseura.fi by midnight September 5th, 2024.
The application should not exceed 5000 characters in total, and it should include:

Introduction as a (light art) curator
This is an informal text, which may include, for example, types of projects you have been curating, your interests in light art, your aims in the future, and so on.

Short merit list
A list of light art exhibitions / events you have curated, and if you will, some other projects meaningful in your career as well.

Three Finnish / Finland based light artists you’d like to meet.
You may check blaf.fi for references, but the artist doesn’t have to be listed there. -

The participants are chosen by the curators of FLASH, Ms. Mia Kivinen and Ms. Anna Björklund, by September 13th, 2024. All the applicants will be informed of the decisions.
A SHORTCUT FOR SELF-PAYING VISITORS
Do you want to take part in the program at your own expense? For a limited amount of light art professionals, who take care of their own travel and accommodation, there is a possibility to attend most of the events for free. Contact Ms. Kivinen, if you want to be one of those persons.
